Dr. Delatater

Alan Delamater, Ph.D., ABPP

The Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is pleased to announce that it is once again offering personalized, one-on-one grant writing consultations to University of Miami faculty researchers.

The CTSI has partnered with Alan Delamater, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor of Pediatrics and Psychology, to consult with faculty who are working on new or previous NIH or other grant submissions. Dr. Delamater can provide guidance on specific aims, various sections of the research strategy, how to respond to critiques listed in summary statements, and preparation of biosketches, among other areas.

Dr. Delamater has a long history of mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty who are preparing grant applications. In his role as Director of Research at the Mailman Center for Child Development, he has focused on helping faculty achieve success in obtaining external funding for their research programs. In 2019 he received the Distinguished Mentor Award from the Society of Behavioral Medicine.

“I am happy to have provided my expertise in writing grant applications and manuscripts in order to increase the research capacity of our fellows and faculty, and now more broadly have an opportunity to increase the breadth of successful research at the University of Miami, particularly in the area of clinical and translational science,” says Dr. Delamater.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Delamater received 23 grants as a principal investigator from federal agencies and national foundations. He is currently a site PI of two multi-site NIH grants and one Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) grant. From 1992 to 2018, he served consistently as a grant reviewer at the NIH including the Risk Prevention Health Behavior (1999-2003) and Psychosocial Risk and Disease Prevention (2003-2004) Study Sections, as well as 53 other grant review panels. He has also served as an Associate Editor for Clinical Diabetes (2002-2006) and the Encyclopedia for Behavioral Medicine (2010-2012), Senior Associate Editor for Translational Behavioral Medicine (2020-2022), has been on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pediatric Psychology, Health Psychology, Diabetes Spectrum, Journal of Trauma Practice, and is currently a Review Editor for Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and Healthcare.
